'My Body was screaming and I wasn't listening': A Wake-Up Call for Every Woman

The danger of ignoring our bodies

Since Mel Schilling passed last week, something she shared has really stayed with me.

One of her recent videos came up on my feed a few days ago, and something she said really stayed with me:

“My body was screaming and I wasn’t listening.”

It really made me pause.

How many of us are guilty of doing exactly that?
Pushing through when we don’t feel well…
Hiding how much we’re struggling because there’s work to do…
People relying on us…
Or simply because we don’t want to let anyone down.

The world has lost such a beautiful soul. I don’t know if she ever truly realised how many lives she touched.

To me, she embodied what it means to be in your feminine power—strong, yet soft. Able to speak her truth, but with kindness. Loving, but also able to hold boundaries. Grounded, wise, and still able to find joy.

Even her final thoughts with her family reflected that deep sense of selflessness.

And yet, it also made me reflect on something deeper…

How we, as women, have made it normal to live like this.

We ignore the tiredness.
We brush off the tension in our bodies.
We override that quiet voice saying, “this is too much.”

Until eventually, it’s no longer a quiet voice.

Our bodies don’t whisper forever… they get louder.

And still, so many of us keep going anyway.

We wear strength like a badge of honour.
We praise it in each other—“she’s so strong,” “so brave”
never really seeing what might be going on beneath the surface.

Because there’s this quiet, unspoken pressure…
to stay composed, capable, and calm.

To not make a fuss.
To not fall apart.
To not let anyone down.

So we carry on.

Even when we’re mentally drained.
Physically tense.
Emotionally overwhelmed.

But what if strength didn’t look like pushing through?

What if it looked like saying, “I need a break”?
Taking time for yourself without guilt.
Letting yourself rest before you reach burnout.
Listening when something doesn’t feel right.

This is brave. This takes courage

We are not meant to push past our barriers.

We are meant to slow down and notice.

To understand and listen to our body's innate wisdom

A gentle reminder

If your body has been trying to get your attention lately…
this is your sign to listen.

Because you don’t have to prove your strength by pushing through everything.

Sometimes, the strongest thing you can do…
is stop.

My coaching packages help other women to do just this. Pain is your body's way of alerting you.

If this resonated for you, I'd love to support you.
