Why Eating “Healthy” Doesn’t Always Work: An Ayurvedic Perspective

If you’ve tried doing all the right things - moving your body, eating more fibre more greens, less sugar, fewer carbs, but still none of these things seem to agree with your body, then Ayurveda could be your missing link...
A Story from My Client
Recently, I had a client who was living with a host family. They prided themselves on cooking healthy meals. Every plate was filled with vegetables, lots of fibre. He came to me asking for tips on chia seeds and turmeric because it had so many health benefits
From the outside, it sounded ideal - like the kind of diet you’d see recommended in a wellness magazine.
But when he shared how he was feeling, I immediately noticed signs of excess Pitta (the Ayurvedic energy of heat and intensity), and I immediately knew that this diet wasn't right for him.
Why “Healthy” Is Different for Everyone
Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, teaches us that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health.
What’s balancing for one person can create imbalance for another.
For example:
Fibre-rich foods can support digestion for some, but for others they can create too much dryness or irritation.
Spices can warm and stimulate, but in excess they can aggravate heat, heartburn, or even mood.
Raw salads and smoothies might feel light and cleansing in summer, but in winter they can weaken digestion and leave you feeling cold and depleted.
The question is never “Is this food healthy?”
The question is “Is this food supportive for me?”
Tuning Into Your Body with Ayurveda
Ayurveda guides us to listen differently — to tune into the body and notice:
✨ Do I feel good in my body after this meal?
✨ Or do I feel heavy, bloated, fiery, or restless afterward?
When you begin to eat for your unique balance — your dosha (constitution), the season, and even the stage of life you’re in — food becomes medicine. It supports rather than depletes.
Eating well with Ayurveda
One of the things I love most about Ayurveda is that it invites us to connect with our own rhythms, and to our bodies
Eating well isn’t a checklist — it’s more like a conversation with yourself. Some days you need grounding meals, some days something lighter. Your needs shift with the seasons, your stage of life, and whatever’s going on in your world.
It’s not a trend. It’s your body gently guiding you, and Ayurveda gives you a way to tune in, trust that guidance, and care for yourself without stress or rigidity.
An Invitation
If you’ve ever felt like you’re “doing everything right” with food but still don’t feel the way you want to, Ayurveda might be the missing piece.
This is the work I do in my 1:1 coaching experiences.
Because what’s “healthy” for you will never come from a trend. It will come from listening to your body — and I’d love to guide you there.
